I’ve just booked my ticket for Kraftwerk playing in Lugalla in Co. Wicklow September 13th. I saw them at the Electric Picnic a few years ago before it got all arsey and cocaine fueled. Mind you I had just had a loverly big spliff and half a bottle of wine, I was only being held on the ground by the change in my pockets. Arcade Fire and Goldfrapp played the big tent. The Flaming Lips played under big Autumn skies and the sunsets were by Monet. I was punched in the leg by a woman in a wheelchair because I bumped into her looking for my girlfriend in the crowd. The best food to be had was from Pie Minister and we sipped Pimms like posh gits under a shading tree.
Another great gig I went to was Lissard in Clonakilty in 98. I stood, again in a tent, with a glass bottle of wine and a glass glass and a spliff watching Lou Reed play New York Conversation within feet of me, doesn’t happen all the time. It was so roomy that I could have swung a cat around me and hit nobody. Drugstore performed too and Nick Cave played piano by a lake. There was a mighty storm that night too and the tents were nearly blown away but no health and safety shite here. Tom Yorke sat beside us in the canteen and had his pint with a plate of dinner. No VIP area at this gig, everyone drank and ate together. I woke up the next morning in an old Volvo estate after being ridden senseless by a wild wellie wearing young woman from cork. I bid farewell and headed back to the B&B just in time for a full irish and scowl off the bean a ti
I wonder what memories I’ll take away from Lugalla. I don’t smoke anymore but I might take a little toke for the occasion that’s in it.
Sigh.
Bigger Sigh.
Lissard sounds cool.
I never even knew they had gigs there…
I am heading to Kraftwerk myself. I will be the fat guy at the back looking terribly uncool.
